Scholarship of learning and teaching/pedagogoic research
Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoTL) or Pedagogical Research (PedR) are umbrella terms for 'a range of learning and teaching activities that include quality and enhancement of learning, excellence and recognition, pedagogic research and solving work-related problems’. Many colleagues conduct SoTL/PedR as part of their everyday teaching practice, as part of strategic projects such as Project 90 or through funded or formal research projects (such as through the Education Incubator).
Our goal is to develop a community of SoTL/PedR practitioners at the University of Exeter, and provide support structures for conducting SoTL/PedR within a robust ethical framework - and increase recognition for educators undertaking research and creating knowledge as part of their practice. EduExe expedited ethical review process for pedagogical research
SoTL/PedR projects can now be approved through the EduExe expedited ethics review process, launched in September 2026. This process involves the duplication of a base or parent application in Worktribe, which can then be amended to suit the specific project and approved via 'chair's action' rather than going through full ethical approval. It is important to note, in terms of amendments, content can only be removed from, not added to, the base application to be eligible for the EduExe expedited ethics review process.
